Not all vitamins, minerals and trace elements get along well with each other - some can even get in each other's way. If you follow a few small tips, you can get the best out of your supplements and provide your body with the best possible nutrition. Here are a few combinations that you should avoid:
- Iron and zinc: Iron and zinc are both important for your body, but they get in each other's way when it comes to absorption. If you take these two at the same time, your body cannot absorb the trace element iron properly. It is better to take iron and zinc at least two hours apart.
- Magnesium, zinc and calcium: These three minerals also compete for absorption in the body. If you take them together, your body may have difficulty utilizing them properly. It is best to leave a gap of about two hours between taking magnesium, calcium and zinc.
- Iron and coffee: If you like to drink coffee in the morning, you should be careful if you take iron supplements at the same time. The caffeine in coffee and tannins in black and green tea can inhibit iron absorption. So our tip: leave at least two hours between taking your iron and your coffee. Caffeine-free coffee is unproblematic and can be drunk directly after your iron intake.
