Taurine was first isolated from ox bile in 1824. The name was then derived from the Greek word for "bull" (tauros = bull). Taurine is an aminoethanesulfonic acid that is produced when the amino acid cysteine is broken down.

Recommended intake: 1-2 g before exercise
