Stag horn salt, also known as ammonium or ABC Trieb, is a strong leavening agent. In the past, it was obtained from deer antlers or horn or leather waste, which explains the origin of the name. Deer horn salt is a leavening agent. It is used to loosen flat pastries, such as shortbread, speculoos or also for gingerbread. It is not suitable for high baked goods (e.g. cakes) and differs from baking powder, among other things, by the absence of acidic components. Staghorn salt has a slightly pungent ammonia odor, which dissipates during baking. It tastes like ammonia, but you should not eat staghorn salt in its raw state, as it is harmful to your health.

Storage: Thanks to our packaging, it can be stored anywhere at room temperature, clean and dry, away from direct sunlight.
