Gum arabic (E414) is the plant sap of an African acacia species. It contains widely branched carbohydrate chains that have a low thickening effect when combined with liquids. Gum arabic is a food additive used as a stabilizer, filler, carrier and occasionally as a thickener. Gum Arabic is generally approved for use in foods and can be found in confectionery, beer, cake frosting, cream stiffener and powdered beverages, for example.
